The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) has announced the recipients of its prestigious Tribute Awards, recognizing artists whose work continues to shape culture and expand the reach of storytelling across borders. This year’s honorees include actors, filmmakers, and artisans whose contributions embody the values of creativity, resilience, and transformative impact, principles that also guide The Akuna Group’s mission.

A Platform for Cultural Impact
TIFF’s Tribute Awards gala, held on September 7 at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel, raises funds for year-round programs that champion diversity, equity, and inclusion in cinema. Past honorees have often gone on to receive Academy Award recognition, underlining TIFF’s role as a cultural bellwether.
This year, filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, actress Jodie Foster, director Hikari, and actor Lee Byung Hun will also be celebrated, with Brendan Fraser serving as the honorary chair during the festival, which runs September 4–14, 2025.
Akuna’s Alignment with Global Creative Futures
At Akuna, we believe in the power of storytelling to reshape economies, empower communities, and bridge cultures. Seeing Idris Elba, our founder, recognized alongside some of the world’s most inspiring storytellers reflects not only a personal milestone but also a shared global commitment to impact-driven creativity.
The Akuna Group congratulates all honorees and looks forward to building on this momentum as we continue to expand opportunities for diverse voices in Africa, the Middle East, and beyond.
